Can Derrick Rose ACTUALLY be an all star this season?

Can Derrick Rose ACTUALLY be an all star this season?
For the past few years Derrick Rose’s career has been less than ideal. He played for the Knicks for a year before he got injured. He joined the Cleveland Cavaliers, got injured, and subsequently got traded to the Utah Jazz before they put him on waivers. He contemplated retirement before he finally landed a spot with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Fast forward to today and Derrick Rose is second in the Western Conference in all-star voting for guards. Shout out all the Derrick Rose stans. They never stopped believing in him when a lot of us gave up on him. He’s having his best season since 2012 and he’s making a strong case for an all-star spot as a reserve.
Ignoring the stat sheet, Derrick Rose has been killing it this season so far. He’s had 17 games with 20 plus points including 2 30 point games and an outstanding 50 point game. Despite coming of the bench, Derrick Rose has been arguably the most consistent player on the Wolves and their best point guard by far. Taking a look at are his stats so far this season. Derrick Rose is averaging 19, 3, and 5 approximately on 48.6, 46.8, and 84.2 percent shooting splits through 33 games which is a 10 point increase in scoring from last season. Derrick Rose has completely taken over games for the Minnesota Timberwolves when they needed them and he’s been reliable in clutch situations. However, since the West is so stacked from top to bottom, the Timberwolves’ record isn’t bad yet it isn’t as good as it could be either. Although it isn’t a huge contributor, team record is an important component in all star voting.
As for the breakdown of all-star votes as of the making of this video, Derrick Rose’s resurgence is one of the key component as to why he’s garnered so many votes. The all-star game is a popularity contest and Derrick Rose has the best narrative right now going for him. Derrick Rose has fans all over the world whose support has never ceased all these years. As it stands, the all star game is likely going to be 6 frontcourt, 4 backcourt, and 2 wildcards. The locks for frontcourt are gonna be LeBron, KD, AD, Jokic, PG13, and Tobias Harris most likely. The 4 backcourt spots are gonna be Curry, Harden, Lillard, and Westbrook. That leaves 2 wildcard spots. These two spots have been taken up by guys like Klay, Draymond, and others, but those spots are up for grabs as of now.
Looking at his competition, it’s gonna be really tough for Derrick Rose to land himself a spot. The spots are determined by 50% being the fan votes, 25% being the player votes, and 25% being the coaches votes, with the coaches ultimately deciding who becomes a reserve in the end. Statistically guys like Jrue Holiday, Mike Conley, KAT, and DeMar DeRozan all have better stats than Rose. The only way I can see Derrick Rose landing a spot in the all-star game is if he has an amazing stretch of winning basketball for the next month as a starter, but the guys Derrick Rose is competing with would also need to have their worst months of basketball at the same time; which is very unlikely to happen. The coaches most likely will not vote him in even if some of the players decide to vote for him.
As for the rest of the season, Derrick Rose's goal should be to try and win the 6th Man of The Year Award. An all star appearance would obviously look good for Derrick Rose's resume all time and it would certainly boost his hall of fame chances, but the chance he gets a spot is slim to none. If anything the number of votes just shows how much love there still is for Derrick Rose. Even though he likely won’t get a spot, he’ll always be loved by the fans and the people of Chicago. Derrick Rose could possibly get a spot in the all star game in the East, but even that’s still very unlikely. The East has plenty of good guards like Oladipo, Kemba, Wall, Lowry, etcetera.
Regardless of whether he becomes an all star or not, this season was a historic comeback for Derrick Rose. A lot people doubted that he could come back and play similarly to his MVP season with the Bulls, but he’s shown that he still has a lot left to give to this game. The legend of Derrick Rose is still being written and I’m intrigued to see where it goes in the future. That’s all for this one guys.
