Does Stress Make You Gain Weight?!

Does Stress Make You Gain Weight?!

WEIGHT LOSS AND FAT LOSS ARE NOT THE SAME!!
No, I am not yelling at everybody watching the video and reading this right now, I just want to stress how important this is!!
Weight loss is such a tricky thing and can go up and down at any moment throughout a single day. Since our weight fluctuates that much I want everybody to understand that the scale does not dictate whether we are progressing towards our goals, sure it is a good baseline to see where you're at, but you can still be losing fat while staying the same weight.
*Don't let the scale trick you into thinking you're not making progress*
The more you dwell on the scale not moving, you stress because you feel you're not making progress. Will this stress lead to weight gain and fat gain? It most certainly can, but in totally different ways.
Stress makes it harder to lose weight because when you stress, your cortisol levels shoot through the roof. An increase in cortisol levels will lead to an increase in water retention, and of course when our body starts to retain water, we gain weight.
This is where the big difference between weight loss and fat loss is when it comes to increased stress.... you don't gain fat because your stressed. There is no hormonal response that makes you gain body fat percentage. If you're stress level is high and you're weight refuses to go down, but you continue eating in a calorie deficit, then you will continue to lose fat. Your body fat percentage is about calories in and calories out at the end of the day.... well mostly. This is the part where everybody gets in trouble- when you get stressed and stop making progress with your weight loss, you stress even more. This build up of stress tends to make us forget about what got us fit in the first place. In comes the stress eating and missing gym sessions because of other stressors in your every day life. With all this going on nobody is thinking about calories in vs calories out, or the how healthy the food you're consuming actually is for you, and then on comes the weight!
So please people, hear me out! Weight loss DOES NOT equal fat loss. If you're taking the correct steps: exercising regularly, keeping a healthy diet, and staying in a calorie deficit, then remain patient!! You will see those results, don't let the scale trick you into thinking you're not making progress
