Foundr Magazine Podcast EP035: Cold Hard Business Advice & How to Dominate Your Goals with Multi-Millionaire Steve Mehr
Getting Real with Steve Mehr
With two decades and a dozen businesses under his belt, the Webshark360 CEO shares the cold, hard truths of entrepreneurship
Much of the popular discussion surrounding entrepreneurship these days centers on widespread disruption, massive sales to tech giants, millions of users, or 20-something moguls.
At Foundr, we definitely get into a certain amount of that starry-eyed stuff, as we interview the best and brightest (and wealthiest) of the world’s CEOs. But we also do our best to balance things out with what being an entrepreneur really means, and what it really takes to succeed. These aren’t always the most glitzy lessons, but they are some of the most fascinating, insightful, and useful ones we offer.

Steve Mehr’s story is a perfect example of this. With his biggest venture reaching around $25 million, he’s never had a huge windfall. But that’s not to say Mehr hasn’t found success—he has, wildly so. He’s currently the CEO of Webshark360, a full-service marketing agency with a large presence among professional service providers. Before that he built up and sold his law firm from scratch, and has founded, built, and managed about a dozen successful companies (not to mention the flops). He’s been a millionaire since his 20s, and had his share of ups, downs, and personal trauma since. And he recently delved into advising young entrepreneurs.
A lot of people talk a big game, or have a flash in the pan, but Mehr’s been in the trenches of building businesses since he was 18. For him, success is not about shortcuts, hacks, or going viral. It’s a long-term commitment to working hard, learning, and getting savvier with each endeavor.
“Everybody is trying to make a quick dollar. Everybody is trying to get rich overnight or in a year or two. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but that’s the exception to the rule,” he says. “The rule is, if you’re willing to make a long-term sacrifice, really immerse yourself into the industry or the field you’re in, then you’ll make it. Just know that it’s not a short journey.”
We spoke to Mehr not long ago, and we now bring to you the story of his entrepreneurial journey, by way of some reality checks.

There has never been a better time to be a batshit crazy ideas person. The playing field has never been so accessible - or competitive. But if you're prepared to hustle for all you're worth and hack like there's no tomorrow, butts can be kicked.
