Whenever a car person looks back on their life there is almost always a moment or two they can point to and say THIS moment is one of the major ones that put me on this path. Maybe it was a day at a race track, maybe it was an old car you helped a parent wrench on, maybe it was something purchased that was so cool and unique you just had to fall in love with it.
This 1991 GMC Syclone is exactly that last point. Purchased brand new from Irwin GMC in Lima Ohio by my parents in 1992 this Little Black Truck became an oddball member of the family instantly. In small town Ohio trucks were made for moving things and hauling things.... not so much with THIS truck. As per the sticker on the tail gate, this vehicle is not approved for hauling or towing.
In all fairness, its HAS hauled dog food a time or two and if memory serves at least one small load of mulch. But while not approved for doing most "Truck" things it WILL haul one thing... ASS! With the early 90s fully kicking off a golden age of turbo charging the GMC Syclone and its slightly beefier brother the Typhoon took the world by Storm! (See what I did there?)
This truck has been in our family for 27 years and while a low mileage 27,000 truck the original black single stage paint was showing its years. Keep in mind, these trucks didn't get white glove treatment with high quality exotic paints, these were built almost entirely of regular early 90s GM parts. As you can see in the first photos she was in need of some paint restoration as well as a few minor mechanical repairs, which we were more than happy to do!
