Our film, targeted at students, aims to convey that grades do not define oneself by highlighting the pressure students face. The scene starts in school, where the main character is upset by her scholastic incompetency, but has her artistic talents discovered by her mother, and is applauded for it. We hope students understand that grades are not everything, and they should pursue their interests instead of merely studying. The obsession with grades rings true in Singapore. The tuition industry in Singapore is worth over $1 billion a year, exemplifying the amount of resources and pressure students are willing to undertake. The Ministry of Education has attempted to reduce the over-emphasis on results, by not naming the top scorers of national examinations and having programmes to nurture students' strengths in other areas. However, the stigma of not succeeding in your studies extrapolating to one’s achievements in life still pervades the Singaporean. Through this video, we hope to encourage students to not place so much pressure on themselves and inspire them to pursue their passion or talent.
