Child support cannot be retroactively modified in Florida. Typically speaking, by rule of thumb, the date the child support is modified is as the date of filing the supplemental petition to modify child support. But here's where this is a little confusing to some parties.

If you file on January 1st, then you end up having a hearing in March as to child support. Child support will be modified back to the date of filing. But it will not be modified prior to the date of actually filing the petition. So, although you are heard by a court a couple months later, yes, you will have some arrearages built up, it will not be done prior to the date of filing the supplemental petition to modify.
