Chelsea boss Sarri was left reeling when Kepa refused to make way for Caballero in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley. The Spain international refused to leave the pitch after his number came up and, consequently, has faced a global backlash. Chelsea have fined Kepa, who apologised by saying: “I was very happy to play in my first Cup Final for Chelsea yesterday and very proud of the team performance. I have thought a lot more about yesterday’s events. “Although there was a misunderstanding, on reflection, I made a big mistake with how I handled the situation. I wanted to take the time today to apologise fully and in person to the coach, to Willy, my team-mates and to the club. I have done this and now I want to offer the same apology to the fans.” Sarri himself claimed it was all a misunderstanding. But the Daily Mail say the Chelsea boss ACTUALLY wanted to make the change for tactical reasons. Trending Caballero has a good penalty saving record. And, having played for City himself, has developed a good knowledge of his former team-mates’ practices behind the scenes. Sarri was clearly trying to channel his inner Louis van Gaal. Meanwhile, Fiorentina star Ciccio Baiano has claimed that Sarri would have come down hard on Kepa had the incident happened in training.
