hey guys!
One of questions I get most on instagram is 'how did you get your body back after having a baby' ? so I'm answering what this question means for me. I wasn't worried just about how I looked after having a baby- I was also worried about how I physically FELT as well as my mental health. After such an intense and stressful experience, there were so many things that I needed to feel better again! This is my top list of what I did to start to feel like myself again- physically and mentally. Note: this is NOT a workout routine- and the title does not say that- so Im sorry if you assumed this was a work out video, because it's not. I'm answering the question the way I took it and the way I would want it answered if I had to go through labor and delivery again.
Note: your body / your mind will never be the same after you have a baby, and how could it? You literally grew a HUMAN. That's AMAZING. While I can fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes, my body definitely doesn't look exactly the same as it did before baby. And that's ok. If anyone ever judged you for looking different you could say "I literally grew a human. What have YOU done?"
1. Breast feeding
-your body is naturally wired to shrink itself down to its pre pregnancy size, and breast feeding releases hormones to cause your uterus to contract and shrink! Breastfeeding also burns 500 calories a day alone- it's a work out in its own right!
2. Drink a ton of water
-so needed just to function and help your body repair itself. Especially in the first 6 weeks while your body is recovering from labor!
3. Go for walks
In the first couple weeks, I would go on walks- even if it was just down our street / around our neighborhood. It felt so good to get up and be active [the most active you really can be while recovering!]
4. Get yourself some cute new pajamas / activewear for lounging around with the baby! There's no getting around that you will be exhausted, and probably going stir crazy. At least I could look forward to putting on new pajamas for the late nights with the baby, and then, as I recovered- new activewear that would encourage me to get up and try to exercise again. My favorite leggings have been from fabletics- I'm 5'11 and they offer their leggings with tall inseams! Game changer! They offer trendy activewear at an exceptional price point- you can sign up as a VIP to get their discounts and there is NO commitment to purchase. You can try out their leggings by getting your first 2 pairs for only $24 [they're worth $99- such a deal]
*I am partnered with fabletics on this video. I do not receive anything if you click the link, or if you buy anything. I picked out all of the pieces I showed in today's video and everything I said is true and my own opinion!
5. Getting back into exercise
I started to exercise again once my doctor cleared me for activity [6 weeks PP]. I love to spin, so I started back slowly- 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there. I'm trying to work back up to what I was at pre-pregnancy- I'm still not back to what I was before baby, but I'm active again and it feels so amazing and is so necessary for my mental health!!
6. Eat healthy food
It will be so tempting to just get fast food in the first weeks after baby [trust me, we did too] but you will feel like garbage if you do. Making sure you have fruits and veggies in your house is so necessary for your recovery! Try to have as healthy of a diet as possible to feel as good as possible!
7. Focus on self care
I burned myself out after coming home from the hospital with a baby because I was trying to do it all- clean the house, cook dinner, take care of baby, WORK- it was too much. For your mental health, try to practice some self care!
