Torc Self-Driving Car Takes on AAA NCNU’s Safety Scenarios

Torc Self-Driving Car Takes on AAA NCNU’s Safety Scenarios

Torc and AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah partnered together to develop safety criteria for self-driving vehicles to ensure safety in AV development and deployment. In November 2018, the partners completed a two-week challenge that put Torc’s self-driving software through a set of comprehensive safety scenarios, ranging from simple to complex.

This video shows selected challenge highlights, which include intersections, cyclists, railroad crossings, and a pedestrian jaywalker at night. These were performed in a safe, controlled environment at Ohio’s Transportation Research Center (TRC).

The ultimate goal of AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah is to provide an unbiased, independent assessment of self-driving vehicles and to help manufacturers improve safety before public deployment. Torc is also using the data to push forward its L4 system’s capabilities and continue to improve behaviors in challenging situations.
