Independent Group MPs held talks with the Electoral Commission on Tuesday about becoming a fully-fledged party. Group spokesman Chuka Umunna said the goal was to be ready to field candidates in the next general election, whenever that is held. But, the move prompted a fierce response by leading Brexit supporter Nigel Farage who mocked Mr Umunna's vision. Speaking on his LBC show, the former Ukip leader claimed Mr Umunna would “need luck” in launching his "change politics project".Nigel Farage said: “Chuka and his chums, otherwise known as the Independent Group. Well, a gang of them today, former Labour MPs Chuka Umunna, Gavin Shuker, Ann Coffey and Chris Leslie were joined with former Tory MP Heidi Allen and guess where they were?“They were at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission.
