International Women’s Day - Friendship recognizes Community Health Workers

This International Women’s Day, Friendship celebrates the women who have empowered themselves to make a difference in their communities. Friendship Community Health Workers are residents of some of the most remote and neglected communities in Bangladesh--the climate-impacted river islands of the Jamuna. These are places where it is impossible to build hospitals because the land itself is constantly eroding.

Friendship’s mHealth technology enables these women to deliver cost-effective and quality healthcare to the doorsteps of the villagers. Today 140,000 people are protected by the care of these 292 women.

These women have gone from being silent, marginal members of their families to influential matrons of their society.
