You are trying to date your mother. Okay not really, but attachment theory states that you are trying to date someone that is similar to your mother or father. Freud's original theory on the Oedipus complex was pretty accurate. Later on, John Bowlby developed the attachment styles in dating. He saw in children he worked with that there were three specific types of attachment in the children he worked with. There was secure attachment, anxious attachment, and avoidant attachment. As you get older, these attachment styles or ways of relating to the opposite sex become prevalent in romantic relationships. So if you had Mommy issues growing up or your mother didn't securely take care of your needs then those insecurities will be sure to arise as you get older.
To find out which attachment style you have, take the quiz below.
