Desilting and Cleaning of South West Beira Lake - An Invented Methodology

A methodology was invented to extract the bottom sludge layer from South West Beira Lake and transport dredged materials underwater without conventional means of dredging and material handling. Hydrodynamic & fluidization principles are used to design and implement the methodology. A controlled fluidized sludge cloud is created underwater by specially designed water jet nozzles. Then the created sediment cloud is extracted by a floating pump to transport dredged materials with a submerged pipeline to a distance specific location. Unlike conventional water injection dredging, this methodology can be used in closed water bodies and where a natural water flow is not present.
