The researchers say it is the first time an entire heart has been successfully engineered and printed.
The project leader at Tel Aviv University, Tal Dvir, said the heart is replete with cells, blood vessels, ventricles and chambers that match the anatomy of the project's donor.
He pointed out that the heart, which is about the size of a rabbit's, is not ready for transplant into a human body.
While that prospect remains a far way off, the team from Tel Aviv hope one day to be able to produce hearts suitable for transplant into humans as well as patches to regenerate defective hearts.
