Alonso Thinking About F1 Return?

Fernando Alonso has recently announced that following Le Mans he will be stepping away from the World Endurance Championship to free himself up for 2020. And when asked about what those options may be, and when he will have a decision he had the following to say:

"It can be anything, I feel very open. When I stopped in Formula 1 I felt I was at the best moment of my career. I feel strong and prepared for big challenges. So in 2020 it can be Formula 1, Indycar or other categories other than those. Maybe I will not do anything.”

"I have the possibility to decide what I want to do in 2020. I have to wait and see what happens in the next two months. Being free of commitments is the best way to make the most timely decision. If I was committed to something, those opportunities would not come. I have two or three ideas in mind and in July it will be known.”

Is Williams For Sale?

While Williams are struggling rumours have begun circulating that the team may be up for sale but Williams deputy boss Claire Williams wants to set the record straight for everyone.

"I'd just like to be really categorical about it: Williams is not for sale.”

"I have no intention of putting Williams up for sale. I don't see why we would. When your team isn't doing well selling at this juncture wouldn't be the right time to do so. But Williams is in this sport and has been for more than four decades and we've never wanted to sell. This is what we do; we don't have anything else to do.”

"So, it is not on the market. I want to go out and get back on the podium and to win races again. That may take us a long time, but it took Frank more than 10 years to do it when he first started in this sport.”

"That's certainly the belief everybody has at Williams: that we can do this and we're not going to just give up because the moments have got a bit hard for us."

Mercedes Aim to Avoid Lewis-Nico Drama

With Bottas performing well so far and looking like he could be a genuine title threat, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has cautioned himself and wants to try and prevent any issues arising as they did between Lewis and Nico in the past.

“You have two drivers that have the ambition and the ability to win a championship. It’s up to us together with them to be very aware of that situation and remember that very quickly Vettel or Leclerc could be back into the game, that we mustn’t be carried away with the four first results.”

“There are 21 races to do and definitely the relationship matters in order to avoid what we went through between Nico and Lewis. I think we are lucky that they have a very good relationship. They get on with each other. There is not a lot of games in the background, and I am very happy about that.

“We are very strong as a team and we wouldn’t allow a relationship between drivers to deteriorate to a point that it has a negative effect on the team. If that would ever be the case again after Nico and Lewis, we will issue yellow and red cards. But we are not there.”

Verstappen Criticises Fastest Lap Point

Max Verstappen has come out recently with some criticism of the new point being given for fastest lap stating that he feels it will only serve to further separate the top from the midfield.

“The problem is that most of the time the top three teams, one of their cars will have an issue at one point or is just a bit slower and they can always then pit because the gap behind is so big.”

“It just makes the gap to the teams behind even bigger if you keep adding a point to the top teams. I don’t see the benefit of it because, as soon as one of the top two is taking the point, the guy in sixth is pitting too and that particular team is not getting the point.”
