PERSPECTIVES | Life has been hard on both sides of the Israel-Gaza border, where thousands suffer at the hands of hard clashes between the militaries. How do Palestinians in Gaza feel about it? How do Israelis see the conflict?

Story:

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel officially renewed its old policy of targeted killings of "senior terrorists" after more than 600 rockets were fired by Hamas and Islamic Jihad at Israel over the weekend, killing three Israelis.

"In the past two days we have renewed the policy of eliminating senior terrorists, killing dozens of terrorists from Hamas and Islamic Jihad and dropping terror towers," Netanyahu said in a statement on Monday.

"We have changed the rules of the game, and Hamas understands this very well. However, it is clear that this is not the end of the campaign, and I therefore instructed to prepare for the continuation and I also intended to leave the armored and artillery forces around the Gaza Strip," the prime minister added.

On Sunday, Israel's Defense Forces (IDF) specifically targeted a Hamas operative in Gaza by bombing his car, marking the first targeted killing by Israel since the 2014 Gaza war.

"We just targeted Hamed Ahmed Khudari, a Gazan terrorist responsible for transferring Iranian funds to Hamas & PIJ in Gaza, helping fund their rocket fire at Israelis. Transferring Iranian money to Hamas & the PIJ doesn’t make you a businessman. It makes you a terrorist," an IDF statement on Sunday said.

Targeted killings refer to a tactic used by the Israeli military to prevent imminent terror attacks of being carried out by killing the suspects involved.

The tactic is believed to have been in applied in the West Bank, Gaza and other countries as well, although Israel rarely confirms such killings.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has long threatened with renewing targeted killings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials, especially after Israeli lawmakers from across the political spectrum began pushing for it in recent months.
