His name is Alex, and he hope that his story can help those as desperate as me. And, also prevent unnecessary extreme activist teenagers from taking similar risks like me.

He was really active basically since he was a kid. He could never sit still for more than a second. he was always running somewhere, whacking his head against all corners, and was a general nuisance to all those around me. His parents were always holding their heads in their hands, and tried leashing me - but his call to adventure was stronger!

Well, the thing about not leaving me unsupervised for more than a second - it’s true. Since his life ideology was philosophical, and basically uncaring towards the objects around me, the amount of broken dishes and toys was measured in tonnes. he still remember when his five year old relatives gifted me some sort of super expensive play set of a train with wagons and rails it drove on. There was even a heap of details and pieces, like trees, obstacles, and even the driver was in a genuine cap - in short it was awesome! A dream come true. Well, it’s a shame that in 2 days the whole set was resting in the garbage.

In short he never understood who needed these toys. The street has sticks, the house has an awesome construction sight with girders sticking out - jump in the elevator shaft and you think to yourself as you fly - you’ll either come home or your parents will identify you by your shoes. To him, this is what he spent his time doing.

A bit later on, he discovered the joy of digging with his friends, but it got old quickly. There weren’t any cool giant hallways in our areas, and the cellars and 3 tunnels under the old temple were already completely searched through and through. His soul asked for adventure! And at an ungodly hour, our eyes found the railroad.

There’s this thing - called “train riding”. Basically it’s when a heroic fool clings onto the train wagon and moves along it (without a ticket), and often without brains - that’s when your hands unclench from overloading. Well, his heart was already jumping in joy, so he decided to risk it. For the record, he was already 14, but as you can understand, his teen skull didn’t have many critical thoughts inside it.

In the end he decided on train riding. First they explored the wagons only after lessons, but bit by bit they eventually turned to skipping even lessons, and obviously that radically lowered his school grades, and he was doing just alright for himself. One of the “cooler” supervisors told his parents about his grades and he had to catch up to the lessons quick, to get the grades I needed by the end of the semester. Well, it’s good that he caught on quick and could work well when he fought of his laziness.

He managed to get the grades, and the winter holidays came around.

On that tragic day, he was out hanging on to a freight train, to get to the neighbouring town and hang about there. When he was 20 kilometers out, he understood that he was on the wrong one. he was shocked, surrounded by snow, but he saw a small town in the distance and as the freight train was slowing down a bit, he decided to hop off the train and make his way back home.

As you can guess, he didn’t manage to jump down properly, because of the slipperiness and ice, and his leg slipped. Instead of landing on two legs he landed on one, and suddenly felt a sudden blow and an unbearable pain which lasted for near 2 hours, until someone finally found me and brought me to the local hospital. In the morning when he opened his eyes, I found himself looking at a white ceiling and walls, and a beeping device. There was a needle in his arm, and an IV hooked up to it. he was surprised and tried to stand. And he was taken aback again. This time so hard, that his loud and uncensored shock managed to call just about all the personnel and nurses. he no longer had a left leg. And he had nothing to do except deal with that fact. he was real sad that day, because he understood that he will never again in his life have a real second leg, and that is an unexpressable feeling - a feeling of loss because there is no chance to get it back. Just yesterday the leg was helping me walk and jump onto that freighter, and today it was gone.

Now, he have a new passion - he break dance, doing cool tricks on his wheelchair (though he generally don’t like using it), and just living his life to the fullest extent that he can. he have a lovely lady, who doesn’t care about his handicap, and he have lovely friends. But nevertheless, his missing leg does really limit his life at times. So to everyone who treasures their appendages, do a sport instead. It’s much more useful and safe for your health, and even gives you more adrenaline, when you win.
