Manchester United moved back to within two points of the top four with a 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday – their fifth consecutive away win under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian’s 100% record may have come to an end in midweek, but they got back to winning ways at the King Power Stadium thanks to a solitary goal from Marcus Rashford. United made a blistering start to the game and should have gone ahead after just four minutes, but their in-form striker somehow failed to hit the target with a header from close range. He did not need to wait long to make amends, though, as Paul Pogba pounced on a lose pass from Ricardo Pereira and clipped a perfectly weighted ball over the top of the defence. Rashford brought the ball down with a sublime first touch and then rifled his finish into the bottom corner, showing all the composure his earlier effort had lacked. Although United dominated the opening half hour, Leicester eventually grew into the match as the visiting defence was forced to make some critical last-ditch challenges and blocks. Jamie Vardy had a bicycle kick well stopped by David de Gea, while the Spaniard’s reflexes were needed again to keep out Rachid Ghezzal’s viscous free-kick. In this fixture last season, United conceded in the 94th minute to drop two points but dug in well this time around to highlight that Solskjaer’s improvements have not been limited merely to the side’s attacking play. The result means United have won five away matches on the spin in all competitions, including trips to Wembley and the Emirates, a streak that hasn’t happened since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge back in October 2012.
