Lea Salonga suggests that the role of Darna should go to 'someone morena' and a 'relative unknown.' Liza Soberano's surprising decision to give up the Darna role has given fans plenty of possibilities to play around with -- Nadine Lustre as a superhero, Pia Wurtzbach donning the iconic costume, and Angel Locsin suddenly taking on the role again, to name a few. But there's one opinion among this sea of suggestions that a lot agrees with: Lea Salonga's proposal for the role to go to someone dark-skinned and to a "relative unknown." "So, what would I love to see as Darna?" the Broadway star asked on Twitter, a day after news of Soberano's exit broke. "Someone morena or kayumanggi to represent the darker-skinned Pinays to let them know they are powerful and beautiful exactly as they are." "I’d also love for her to be a relative unknown. Let the story sell the film. That is all," she added. So, what would I love to see as Darna? Erik Matti was subsequently confirmed as director, though both eventually ended up leaving. Locsin departed because of back problems, while Matti admitted that he and Star Cinema had "creative differences." Soberano announced her exit this Thursday, fearing that the injury to her finger which she sustained while working on "Bagani" will lead to her being unable to do the iconic role justice.
