A lot of people have really outdated views about India, especially in regards to open defecation and the "lack of public toilets" in India. The Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Campaign has made great strides in India since its inception in 2014 with literally tens of millions of toilets built and billions of dollars spent every year on building them.
